Yeast Intolerance
Many are familiar with lactose intolerance but not so much about yeast intolerance. When someone is yeast intolerant, one’s body is over-producing candida. Candida is yeast-like fungi dwelling in moist parts of the body which includes mouth, vagina, and intestines. Mostly, the amount of candida in our body is kept in check by beneficial bateria. However, they can multiply excessively beyond the level of healthy norm. Then one suffers from yeast intolerance and the condition is labeled candidiasis or thrush. Some physicians think severe infections of candida in the stomach and instestines may add to a broad range of different diseases like abdominal irritation, unbalanced bowel function, pain, and itchiness.
It’s likely that candidiasis is influenced by a person’s diet and health. The fungi generally grow on bread, biscuits, and simple sugars. They thrive on fermented foods such as cheese, yogurt, and alcohol as well. A healthy person can maintain candida under control most of the time. But in case the immune system gets weakened due to stress or illness, the fungus could grow rapidly. The fungus will multiply, also, if beneficial bacteria in the body dies due to the use of antibiotics. Few other possible culprits of candida are stress, hormone imbalance, and inadequate nutrition. When a person’s normal diet is deficient in proper nutrients, it could undermine the immune system, causing difficulty for the body to manage the toxins from the excessive yeast. Those suffering from candidiasis frequently crave sweets and drinks and foods with yeast in them. By following a speical diet that excludes yeasty foods, candidasis could be treated. Doctors can also prescribe anti-candida drugs such as nystatin.
Some symptoms of yeast intolerance are bloating and excessive gas. A person with a yeast intolerance could also have diarrhea and headaches. Mouth ulcers and furry or coated tongue may be also experienced. Adopting a yeast free diet is the best and only way to get rid of symptoms for the yeast intolerant person. This method may be necessary for the person’s whole life or at least until the symptoms fade. A yeast free diet excludes yogurt, cheese, and caffeine. Foods that cause the problems in the body may be added to the diet once the yeast level is corrected in the stomach. Generally it is recommended that the diet be followed for a period of three months before any of the high yeast foods can be re-introduced into the diet.
Although yeast intolerance is a frustrating and painful issue, it’s easy to get the body back on the right course. Using a simple diet modification, the symptoms would disappear and the body regains control over the natural bacteria within the system.
